Foster kids to get single health plan – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Georgia children in foster care and adoption assistance will be provided health coverage through a single care management organization (CMO), the state agency that oversees Medicaid announced Monday.

As part of an ongoing overhaul of Georgia Medicaid, Virginia-based Amerigroup Community Care will begin serving about 27,000 children in the foster care system starting Jan. 1. The program also will include a portion of the youth offenders in the custody of the state juvenile justice system.

The state Department of Community Health has been working on a redesign of Georgia Medicaid to rein in costs while improving coordination and continuity of care.
