Carroll County foreclosures are continuing to fall, thanks to an improving economy and alternatives for homeowners in financial distress, according to local housing officials.
RealtyTrac, the nation’s leading source for housing data, released its October figures Thursday, showing that Carroll County had 63 foreclosures this October, compared with 126 last October, a 50 percent reduction.
Carroll County is now ranked 26th in Georgia counties in the foreclosure rate, with one in every 708 homes in some state of foreclosure. That is significantly down from end of last year, when Carroll County was ranked seventh in the state, with one in every 22 homes in foreclosure.
“It’s a definite improvement,” said Rett Harmon of West Metro Board of Realtors. “The economy is stabilizing and there are areas where short sales have become more popular with banks and that has helped reduce foreclosures.”
