Fish kill observed in Savannah tributary | The Augusta Chronicle

A fish kill was reported Satur­day along a Columbia County tributary of the Savannah River, but its cause remains unknown.

The affected area appeared to be limited to a segment of Betty’s Branch, said Jay Jacobs, a staff member of Savan­nah Riverkeeper.

Jacobs and a fellow River­keeper official came to the site after a resident reported dead fish in the area.

“We found about 60 dead fish,” Jacobs said. “We saw perch, catfish, (largemouth) bass, chain pickerel, shad, suckers and carp – and there were multiple sizes.”
