Citing public outcry as their motivation, federal regulators have suggested changes to a draft pollution permit for King America Finishing.

None of the changes, however, appear to provide the pollution restrictions environmentalists and citizens along the recreational river have clamored for in at least half a dozen public meetings over the last two years.

The Environmental Protection Agency made its comments in a four-page letter last month to state regulators from Christopher Thomas, chief of the pollution control and implementation branch of EPA’s Region 4 in Atlanta.
