BRUNSWICK | A group of St. Simons Island developers has sued Glynn County and the joint city-county water and sewer service, asserting that it has denied sewer connections even though all its plans have been approved and the county has accepted thousands in fees.
In a suit filed late Tuesday, limited liability corporations Mary Wan, Yacht Club, Gascoigne and Palmetto Building Group are asking the court to enjoin the Glynn County Commission and the Brunswick-Glynn County Joint Water and Sewer Commission from unlawfully interfering with its right to carry out development plans the two bodies already approved.
Among other things, the four developers want the court to order the county and water and sewer commission to allow it to tie into the public sewer system, to accept all the fees for permits for already approved plans, to issue the necessary permits and to award damages.
At the center of the suit is Stephen Swan, executive director of the Water and Sewer Commission. Recently, Swan said that he was worried about the integrity of a line that serves “sewer basin 2030,’’ which serves the southwestern portion of St. Simons Island where all the affected properties are located, the suit says.
