DeKalb Superior Court Judge Cynthia Becker is resigning from office before the end of the year.

Becker’s term of office ends on Dec. 31, 2016 and Gov. Nathan Deal will appoint a successor to finish her term.

In a Nov. 10 statement, Becker, who has been on the bench for 14 years, said her departure is unrelated to controversial decisions she made in the DeKalb Schools corruption case that have put her at odds with DeKalb District Attorney Robert James.

“As my family, friends, colleagues and Courthouse family had known for months before the trial, I plan to leave office before my term ends, not due to any pressure from anyone, but because I am engaged to be married in early spring 2015,” she said.
