Deal’s bill signing puts Payne City out of business

After 96 years, Bibb County’s Payne City is no more.

On Friday, Gov. Nathan Deal signed a bill eliminating the 218-person, .04-square mile city-within-a-city.

It will become part of the Bibb County consolidated government.

Payne City was founded as a textile mill town in 1919. It was located entirely within the Macon city limits.
