Indicted DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis is out. DeKalb County Commissioner Lee May is in.
Gov. Nathan Deal announced Tuesday afternoon that he removed Ellis, who is facing a 15-count indictment, and replaced him with a fellow DeKalb Democrat who has had his share of run-ins with Ellis.
The governor said he wanted to “keep in the spirit” of local legislation that suggests May would take office if the chief executive had to be removed from office.
“This will be disruptive,’ he said. “But I am hopeful that the appointment of Commissioner May will make this as minimally disruptive as possible.”
