CRCT scores improve statewide and in local school districts | Online Athens

Student scores on state Criterion-Referenced Competency Tests, or CRCTs, edged up in Clarke County and most of the state, say local and state school officials.

The Georgia Department of Education released state and county scores on the tests, which are meant to measure public school students’ mastery of subject areas such as reading, math and science.

The tests are administered to students in grades three through eight.

Clarke County students posted higher scores than last year in reading, math, science and social studies in the critical fifth grade year.

Just 9 percent of Clarke fifth-graders did not meet or exceed the state standard for reading, for example, and just 10 percent did not meet or exceed the math standard.

Statewide, 7.1 percent of fifth-graders did not meet the reading standard, and 10.5 percent fell short of the math standard. The final numbers will be higher; retest results are not included in the data released Tuesday.
