ATLANTA– A Clarkston city councilwoman pleaded not guilty to charges that she embezzled money from a nonprofit community center she helped run.
Last week a federal grand jury indicted Joan Swaney, accusing her of embezzling $50,000 from the Clarkston Community Center. According to the indictment, she forged the signature of the facility’s director on checks and deposited them into her own account. At Friday’s hearing, a federal judge released Swaney on a signature bond.
