Corps of Engineers gets new Savannah District commander | The Augusta Chronicle

The Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District, which manages lakes Thurmond, Russell and Hartwell along the Savannah River, will have a new commander Friday.

Col. Thomas J. Tickner will become the new commander for the Army Corps of Engineers’ Savannah District on July 19.

Col. Thomas J. Tickner, who will replace outgoing commander Col. Jeffrey M. Hall, comes to the Savannah District from Washington, where he recently completed studies at the Dwight D. Eisenhower School for National Security and Resource Strategy.

Before attending school, Tickner served as the military assistant to the assistant secretary of the Army for civil works and has served in various military assignments, including a deployment in Operation Iraqi Freedom. He has served in the corps’ Sacramento District and commanded the Philadelphia District.

The Savannah District manages military construction programs at 11 Army and Air Force installations in Georgia and North Carolina and oversees water resources and development activities in Georgia and portions of South Carolina.
