CANTON — South Cherokee County residents up in arms over a planned residential development of 68 acres on Trickum Road will have to wait a little longer to hear the county’s verdict on the plans.
The Cherokee County Planning Commission voted Tuesday night to accept Lennar Georgia’s request for a 30-day extension to reconsider its 109-home proposal, which is to be built on Trickum Road north of Arnold Mill Road. All members of the nine-person board voted to accept the postponement, except Rick Whiteside, who recused himself from the vote, because his personal business has worked for the developer on the project.
In recent weeks, residents nearby the planned development have expressed strong concerns the development would negatively impact the community.
The applicant’s attorney, Parks Huff, said the request to reconsider the plans for the development was partly because of those concerns, which Lennar Georgia is “certainly” willing to consider moving forward.
“We’ve met with the neighbors at a public participation meeting, and they all had good questions and good concerns,” Huff said.
Now, residents are waiting to see Lennar Georgia’s next set of plans.
“We have got to see the plan and see how it turns out. In the plan, there was nowhere for children to play, just streets and houses, no recreation. We are hoping it will add a recreation area,” said Ana Maria Collantes. “Until we see the plan, we are kind of on hold.”
As is often the case with coming developments, Collantes said the main issue that has neighbors concerned is the potential impact on traffic.
