Carroll jobless rate falls 3 points – Times-Georgian: News

The combination of student workers leaving summer jobs and a significant slowdown in layoffs helped bring Carroll County’s August jobless rate back down to single digits.

The county’s jobless rate dropped to 9.4 percent in August, a 3-point reduction from July’s 12.4 percent and slightly below the 9.7 percent figure of last August, according to figures released this week by Georgia Department of Labor.

The reduction came as the Carroll County labor force dropped from 55,038 in July to 52,789 in August, a decrease of 2,249 workers, or 4 percent, and the number of unemployed fell from 6,847 in July to 4,978 in August, a decrease of 27 percent.
