Business owner McCoy plans to challenge Guider – Douglas County Sentinel: Local News

Douglasville business owner J.R. McCoy said he’s “taking a beating” to the tune of around an extra $10,000 in taxes as a result of the county property tax hike approved by the Douglas County Board of Commissioners last month.

Needless to say, McCoy isn’t happy about the five-figure hit to his bottom line. So he’s going after District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider, who he says cast “the deciding vote on this tax increase” in what was a 3-2 decision by the BOC.

McCoy has filed his Declaration of Intent to run against Guider in next year’s Republican Party primary.

McCoy took aim at Guider’s former role as the Douglas County Tax Commissioner before she was elected in 2010 to serve a commission district that covers the mostly rural western and southern parts of the county.

“She’s been collecting Douglas County citizens’ taxes for 28 years,” McCoy said. “And she was just responsible – the swing vote – on the largest tax increase in the history of Douglas County. When are the people of her district going to get tired of giving their tax money to Ann Jones Guider?”

Guider is quick to point out she voted against the budget passed last December that was built around increasing taxes from 9.9 to 12.9 mills.
