A pair of prominent businessmen who’ve been highly influential in Georgia’s sports community will be presented the Georgia Historical Society’s highest honor in February.
The South’s oldest historical institution, which in 2014 will celebrate its 175th anniversary, will induct Arthur Blank and Billy Payne as Georgia Trustees during its annual Trustees Gala in Savannah.
The designation is reserved for individuals “who really represent the best that the state of Georgia has to offer,” Georgia Historical Society president and CEO Todd Groce said Tuesday. He spoke in front of the statue of Georgia founder Gen. James Edward Oglethorpe in Savannah’s Chippewa Square.
