Bibb County to keep millage rate the same | Politics | Macon.com

The Bibb County Commission voted 4-0 to keep the same millage rate — 12.003 mills — as last year.

Commissioners took less than five minutes to discuss and vote on the millage rate, which is part of a formula to calculate property taxes. Chairman Sam Hart was absent from the meeting.

Meanwhile, commissioners effectively tabled a discussion about introducing a boxing program to the recreation center at Freedom Park.

Macon-Bibb County Parks and Recreation Director Dale “Doc” Dougherty wants to turn each recreation center into a specialty center. For Freedom Park, that would mean replacing basketball with boxing and conditioning programs.

“We’re trying to change the elements of the recreation centers,” Dougherty told commissioners, adding that basketball would still be available at the county’s other recreation centers. “The arts program (at Freedom Park) would stay the same, but the gym would be changed to a boxing facility.”
