Ball Ground holds tax rate steady – The Cherokee Ledger-News: Top Stories

The Ball Ground City Council voted at its Sept. 12 meeting to keep the city’s millage rate the same — a decision that might lower a resident’s tax bill slightly, depending on how much, if at all, their property value fluctuated.

The council voted 4-0, with Councilman Mickey O’Malley absent, to set the 2013 millage rate at 6 mills. One mill is equal to $1 for every $1,000 of assessed value, and property is taxed at 40 percent of its assessed value.

“I am glad to say that we were able to keep the millage rate as it is, based on the tax digest,” Mayor Rick Roberts said. “I am proud to say that this city has weathered the recession much better than we ever thought we would.”

Ball Ground’s tax digest, according to the Cherokee County Tax Assessor’s Office, experienced a decrease of roughly 2.9 percent compared to the previous year.
