Westmoreland on US Embassy Evacuation in Yemen

On Wednesday, the United States Embassy in Sanaa, Yemen was evacuated due to escalating Houthis violence in the region that was deemed unsafe for embassy personnel.  Below is Congressman Westmoreland’s statement.

“The evacuation of the U..S Embassy in Yemen shows that the Iranian-backed Houthis regime is aggressively and dangerously spreading throughout the Middle East,” stated Westmoreland. “The Houthis coup is a direct threat to the counterterrorism efforts of the US and potentially to our national security. Just this past September, President Obama was touting Yemen as one of his foreign policy success stories – showing the need for President Obama to get a tighter grasp on his foreign policy plans as the unrest in the Middle East evolves. We must remain vigilant in our efforts to defeat terrorism in the Arabian Peninsula, and in addition, remain focused on eliminating ISIS.”

Senator David Perdue Applauds Bipartisan, Bicameral Passage of Keystone Jobs Bill

U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA) today applauded the House of Representatives for once again passing legislation to create the Keystone XL Pipeline. The bill passed the House 270-152 and passed the Senate with a 62-36 vote.

“Now it’s official: the bipartisan Keystone jobs bill that I cosponsored in the Senate has overwhelming support from the House. Georgians, and all Americans, have demanded that Congress function again and pass bills that get our economy going, and the Keystone bill does just that. With its creation, the Keystone XL pipeline will create tens of thousands of jobs, it will get us closer to energy independence, and will help lower energy costs for families and small businesses.

“This bipartisan, bicameral jobs bill is a commonsense approach to jumpstart our economy. The President has simply run out of excuses. It’s time the President sign this bill into law instead of playing politics and pandering to special interests.

Woodall Paves Way for Passage of “Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act”

Today, U.S. Representative Rob Woodall (GA 07) managed the rule for debate of the Keystone Pipeline bill on the floor of the House, clearing the final hurdle for this bill to be sent to the President’s desk for his signature.  Woodall issued the following statement regarding his work on behalf of the “Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act.”

“The new American Congress is committed to delivering results to the American people, and that’s exactly what we’ve done as the House and Senate worked together to pass this important bipartisan legislation,” said Rep. Carter Supports Sending Keystone Bill to the President

Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter  released the following statement today after the United States House of Representatives passed S.1, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act, with Carter’s support. The legislation would remove bureaucratic hurdles that stand in the way of construction on the Keystone XL Pipeline.

“I am proud to vote again today to approve this important project that will create over 40,000 jobs without a dime of taxpayer funding to help pull eager American workers out of the unemployment line. In addition to job creation and reducing energy costs, this project is vital to our national security. The construction of this pipeline will reduce our dependence on oil from often hostile foreign sources leading to reduced funding for both sides of the War on Terror. That is of special importance to me as the Representative for four major military installations that have borne the brunt of this fight, especially as the President requests Authorization for Use of Military Force against ISIL.

Rep. Tom Graves Votes to Send Keystone XL Approval Bill to the President

Rep. Tom Graves (R-GA-14) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Keystone XL Approval Act (S. 1), Senate-passed legislation that would approve the Keystone XL pipeline:

“This common-sense jobs bill has bipartisan support from across the political spectrum. In the Senate, it was passed with the support of nine Democrats, and today it passed the House with the support of 29 of my Democrat colleagues. It’s been subject to five safety and environmental reviews by the president’s own State Department, and is even supported by labor unions. Yet, the president still threatens to veto this jobs bill. As I’ve said before, I truly hope that, once a bill is sitting on his desk, the president will not turn his back on all of the Americans who would have the opportunity to work as a result of this pipeline.”

Although the House first passed legislation approving the Keystone XL pipeline this Congress on January 9, 2015, the Senate bill contained minor differences, which prompted the House to take up the Senate bill. The House passed S. 1 today by a bipartisan vote of 270 to 152. S. 1 passed the Senate on January 29, 2015 by a bipartisan vote of 62-36.

U.S. Senator David Perdue today announced that he will oppose the nomination of Loretta Lynch for Attorney General:

“While Ms. Lynch may have an impressive resume, she did not adequately answer the committee’s questions nor alleviate my concerns about the consistency with which she applies our nation’s laws. After thoroughly reviewing her record and testimony, I am not confident she will defend the Constitution, especially when the President seeks to abuse his power.

“We need an Attorney General who will maintain independence and will put the law above partisan politics. I strongly disagree with her support for the President’s executive action on amnesty, which is both unlawful and unconstitutional.

Sending the Keystone XL Pipeline to the President’s Desk

Today, the House passed S. 1, the Keystone XL Pipeline Approval Act. The bill immediately authorizes the construction and operation of the Keystone XL Pipeline, which has been stalled by the Obama administration for over six years. Congressman Westmoreland strongly supported this bill.

“I came to Washington to improve our economy and get Americans back to work; the Keystone XL Pipeline will do just that,” stated Westmoreland. “President Obama’s State Department estimates the Keystone Pipeline would create up to 42,000 jobs. That’s 42,000 more Americans being able to put food on their table and rely on a stable paycheck. The pipeline will boost the economies of the cities along the pipeline construction and bring life back to struggling communities. The Keystone Pipeline XL is an opportunity for hard-working Americans and businesses to get back to work.

“It has been six years since the Keystone Pipeline construction permit was requested, and the political stalling must end. It’s time for the President to make job creation and American energy production a priority.

“Over 60 percent of Americans want the President to approve the construction of the Keystone Pipeline XL. When the bill heads to President Obama’s desk today, he has the opportunity to listen to what the people want, or continue down his destructive path of acting alone. I encourage President Obama to put politics aside and sign this jobs bill into law.”
