The Athens-Clarke County Tea Party Patriots will hold a series of fundraising events, both internally and in the community, to raise the tens of thousands of dollars the organization owes to speakers for its first Liberty Convention, the group’s young founder said Saturday.
Keyantwon Stephens, who also serves as the local tea party organization’s chairman, said the speakers, who included investigative reporter Ben Swann and 2012 Libertarian Party presidential candidate Gary Johnson, are owed approximately $65,000. He claimed Saturday to have been in touch with management personnel associated with Swann and Johnson, and further claimed to have their support for the payment plan.
Closer to home, former Georgia congressional candidate Martha Zoller, now a conservative talk show host and blogger who was also among the speakers at the Liberty Convention, said in a Saturday email that she told Stpehens to send her the information from the press conference, and expected to speak with him on Monday to arrange payment. Zoller said she had talked with Stephens on Friday, but no arrangements were made with regard to payment.
