Gwinnett County K-9 Officer “Eros” has retired, according to the Gwinnett Daily Post.
After five years of serving the Gwinnett County Police Department as one of its K-9 officers, the dog known around the law enforcement agency as “Eros” is entering retirement.
Last week, Gwinnett County commissioners approved the police department’s request to retire Eros, a black and tan German Shepherd who joined the department in 2013. Eros will spend his remaining days at home with his handler, Cpl. Brandon Townley.
Department officials said health concerns prompted the request to retire the K-9 from service. His time patrolling Gwinnett County ended Tuesday, when he was removed from service on the same day that commissioners granted his retirement.
“While he has served the Gwinnett County Police Department and our community with honor, our veterinarian has recommended that K-9 Eros be retired,” Police Chief Butch Ayers told commissioners on Tuesday.
