Adoptable (Official) Georgia Dogs for January 9, 2024

Gus is a young male Mountain Cur & Shar-Pei mix puppy who is available for adoption from Athens Canine Rescue in Athens, GA.

Raised by a wonderful bottle baby loving foster, Gus has been with Athens Canine Rescue since before his eyes were even open! He is being raised in a foster home that houses other dogs, cats, and even some goats + chickens! Gus currently weighs in at around 9 pounds at 6 weeks old and the shelter estimates he’ll top out around 50 pounds (but stay on the short and stocky side, we think!). That’s just a guess though, so expect more (or less).

Thursday is an adult male Labrador Retriever & Carolina Dog mix who is available for adoption from Athens Canine Rescue in Athens, GA.

Welcome Thursday! This charming fellow with the goofiest grin is around 4-5 years old! He weighs in at just about 45 pounds — the perfect size for snuggling! He is a healthy, happy boy aside from a mass on his foot which the vet believes is a benign cyst. He sleeps through the night in his crate, but will whine a little bit when he first goes in (who could blame him, the party is outside of it!) He does great holding it throughout the day, but does best with an afternoon potty break because he loves to drink water.

This boy is SO smart and is learning lots of tricks, like “sit” and “lay down”. Thursday hasn’t been around children or cats, but lives another dog in his foster home! While he loves to play with other dogs and is friendly, he does prefer to share his space with a dog who’ll respect his boundaries. Like many shelter dogs with insecurities, Thursday resource guards “his” items. For now, he’d do best in a home without small children.

Truvy is a young female American Staffordshire Terrier & Labrador Retriever mix who is available for adoption from Athens Canine Rescue in Athens, GA.

Introducing Truvy! This brindled beauty is as pretty as they come and has a personality to match. At a year and a half years old, she weighs in at 40 pounds — making her just the perfect size! Not only does Truvy have an A+ in keeping the house clean, she also knows to go into her crate on her own at night (though a treat as an incentive wouldn’t hurt). She is so well behaved that she is actually left outside of her crate when her humans are away and does great!

This girl is a social one. She loves to rough and tumble with her bigger male canine sibling. She listens to his cues well and backs off when he’s had enough. She’s met several different children and was able to mold her personality to fit their needs! With her quieter friends, she was happy to be petted. With her more active friends, she could be found chasing a ball or zipping around with them at full speed (and causing giggles galore!) She lives with a cat in the home currently, but he is quite dog savvy and lets her know who’s boss. She’d likely do well in a home with cats who are used to dogs, as she could be prone to chasing ones that fear her.
