Adoptable Georgia Dogs for October 28, 2014

Yogi is an adult male Dachshund who is available for adoption from the Humane Society of Forsyth County  in Cumming, GA.

Yogi is a young male Collie mix who had to be shaved down, but has regrown much of his coat since then; he is available for adoption from the Georgia S.P.C.A. in Suwanee, GA.

Yogi is an American Staffordshire Terrier/Lab mix, about eight months old, who will eventually weigh some 50-60 pounds. Here’s his story:

I was a stray dog roaming the streets of Roswell. A volunteer from You Lucky Dog had been trying to catch me for a while, and though I loved visiting her dogs through the fence I was still really scared of people. One Saturday morning, I saw a woman who was out for a run. She came back later to find me, but I had already moved on. Later that same night and about a half mile away from where she had seen me earlier, I found her again walking with her two dogs! I was nervous for her to approach me, but desperately wanted to play with her 9 month old puppy. (That puppy happened to be a dog adopted earlier this year from You Lucky Dog Rescue!)
I followed them home and finally got the courage to go into her house. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I was safe there so I started to fall asleep. The woman walked away so I could rest, but then I saw her leaning over the puppy gate to love on her dogs. It looked like fun so I ran up and gave her a kiss when she wasn’t looking. It made me laugh that she was so surprised, but I really wanted some love too! She took it slow with me, but I knew she was kind so I nuzzled right up to her for more. I guess I made an impression on her because after only a day with me she decided I was worth saving and offered to foster me with the help of You Lucky Dog. Now I’m a lucky dog too!

New people still make Yogi a little nervous, but he’s not aggressive and is gaining confidence with every positive encounter. Once he learns to trust you, Yogi will show you endless affection and loyalty. Yogi is a low to moderate energy dog who enjoys walks and playing with his canine companions (9 months and 14 ½ years). He enjoys taking long naps just the same and would be happy to curl up in your lap if you let him. Yogi learns things very quickly and requires only gentle corrections. He knows how to sit and is getting better at his downs. He holds “place” command for over 2 hours at a time several times a day. Yogi is also superb on walks, adjusting his pace to yours and is learning to sit when you stop. Yogi is most happy when he is around a caring human or other dogs but, he doesn’t have to be right next to them to be content. He would do best in a home with older children that understand he needs time and patience to feel comfortable.
