Adoptable Georgia Dogs for November 12, 2013

Hunter is a blind Australian Shepherd mix who is 2.5 years old and weighs about 60 pounds. He was found having been abandoned if you can imagine the type of person who would abandon a blind dog.

Hunter has a genetic defect causing him to be blind. He cannot see out of one of his eyes and has no peripheral vision in the other eye. Hunter is very smart and uses his hearing to make up for his sight. Hunter is completely house-trained and gets along well with the other foster dogs. Hunter is an awesome boy and deserves a chance to have a forever home. Hunter is available for adoption from Alcovy Pet Rescue in Monroe, Ga.

There was a time when I would have considered a blind dog pitiful, but that was before our Roxy went blind and we have come to understand that blindness in a dog is a much less problematic issue for her than simply growing old. She has adapted very well to our home, with the only modifications to her day-to-day life from the loss of sight being that we help her down the main staircase (more because we cringe when we hear her slide downstairs) and we try not to move the furniture.

Elwood Blues is a Beagle / Jack Russell Terrier who is about nine years old and in need of a home that can provide him love, biscuits, and a little bit of care for his special needs.

His face is partially paralyzed so he is unable to blink his eyes, he is in congestive heart failure, and he has just a little trouble with being incontinent. Elwood requires medication daily and blood work bi-annually. He gets along with other dogs and doesn’t even pay any attention to cats.

There’s no better way to start on a mission from God than with the company of your brother Elwood Blues. Elwood is available for adoption from Furever Friends Humane Society in Gray, GA. If Elwood never finds an adoptive home, he will continue in foster care at the expense of Furever Friends Humane Society.

Carson is a little Shih Tzu / Pug mix with a huge smile. He’s three years old and gets along well with children and other dogs. He’s currently undergoing heartworm treatment, and is available for adoption from ACT Animal Rescue of Valdosta / Lowndes, Ga.
