Adoptable Georgia Dogs for July 3, 2013

This senior German Shepherd is looking for a new home and is available from the DeKalb County Animal Shelter in Decatur. We’ve asked for more information about him, and if anyone is interested in helping him with a donation or foster home, email me and I’ll pass on whatever I learn.

This little man is a Retriever puppy who is looking for his new home at DeKalb County Animal Shelter.

Speaking of DeKalb County, the Commission voted last week to buy land for a new shelter near Peachtree-DeKalb Airport.

“There were demographic studies done in the research initially by the advisory board that actually polled people about would they be likely to volunteer at the shelter in the zip codes , would they be likely to adopt animals in those zip codes and those are other reasons that made it a good choice,” said animal rights advocate Linda McCollough.

Supporters believe Tuesday’s vote marks an end to troubling conditions that have plagued the current shelter for decades.
There is more work to be done before ground is broken on the new shelter. In the meantime, commissioners said they are committed to making sure that operations are running smoothly at the existing shelter.

That’s the before picture sent out yesterday when this old soul had just a couple hours before being put down at the Clayton County Animal Shelter yesterday. Apparently, something about his plight struck a chord, because I heard from more people about him than any other dog I can remember.

This is what he looked like when he took his Freedom Ride with Angels Among Us Rescue yesterday.

This is today’s project from Angels Among Us: a little family of mama and seven tiny puppies found abandoned outside an apartment complex. They’ll be euthanized together  unless a foster home is found.  Email foster@angelsrescue.org ASAP if you can help save this family and put “Urgent Family!” in the subject line! Please do this asap, if you really can step up. This family cannot be saved without fosters!

This is a Golden Doodle mama and her ten puppies. Mom was found pregnant and abandoned and Angels Among Us gave her a safe place to deliver her puppies and a foster home. The puppies will be adopted quickly as soon as they’re able, so if you’re looking for a Golden Doodle, get your application in soon. Even though they’ll be adopted once they’re weaned, it will cost a substantial amount of money to care for them and provide veterinary care until then.
