Be it resolved: Carter bats .000 as a legislator

According to Sen. Jason Carter’s rhetoric, there is no problem facing Georgia that can’t be solved by an obvious-to-everybody-but-Gov.-Deal liberal cliché. Yet despite his endless supply of easy answers and his assertion that he can work with Republican legislators, Carter has never passed a bill through the General Assembly in his four years of service. Never. The entirety of his legislative accomplishments are the following resolutions – which are not bills, do not carry the force of law and do not cross over to the House:

“Jason Carter is long on rhetoric and short on record,” said Deal for Governor spokesman Brian Robinson. “He has not led in any capacity during his time in the Senate. He has not held a leadership position in the Democratic Caucus nor in the DeKalb delegation. He didn’t pass amendments, much less bills, and he hardly even offered any serious legislation. Carter’s campaign for governor is much like his Senate career. He stands on sidelines and offers commentary on those who actually lead and get things done for Georgia.”

“Nathan Deal led the state through the end of the Great Recession and cut government so that we could fund our priorities. He saved HOPE, courageously reformed our criminal justice system, cut taxes and increased education spending every year, even during tough times. Jason Carter knows Governor Deal did a good job – that’s why he voted for much of Deal’s agenda. Gov. Deal has served his community as a deacon, a judge and a prosecutor; he served his nation in uniform and in Congress; he served his state in the Senate and as governor. Jason Carter, with one of the most famous names in the entire world, hasn’t been trusted with leadership positions in either his public sector or private sector jobs.”
