The renewable energy supplier for Georgia’s 38 electric membership corporations has reached an agreement to purchase the full output of a new 20-megawatt solar project to be built in rural Jeff Davis County.
The ground-mounted project will be one of the largest solar-generating facilities in Georgia, occupying 135 acres near Hazlehurst, Ga. It will generate enough electricity to serve about 3,000 households.
Under an agreement with owner-operator Silicon Ranch Corp., Green Power EMC will receive all of the energy produced by the project over a 25-year period. Construction is due to begin this year, and the facility is expected to be in operation by late next year.
Green Power EMC already has power-purchasing agreements with two solar projects, a 115-kilowatt rooftop array near Athens, Ga., and a 150-kilowatt ground-mounted array near Warner Robins, Ga.
