Mayor Reed unveils FY2015 Atlanta budget – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed is asking the city council to approve a $565.5 million general fund budget for fiscal 2015, an increase in spending of $20.7 million over this year.

The fifth-year mayor’s budget priorities will continue to be public safety, economic development and the youth recreation centers he reopened during his first term, Reed wrote in his annual budget message to council members.

“We have accomplished a great deal during my first four years in office … important and necessary things that steadied our city and made it stronger and healthier,” he wrote. “The FY2015 proposed spending plan reflects the work that we must continue.”

The budget, which takes effect July 1, also would continue building up the city’s general fund reserves, which were nearly depleted when Reed took office in 2010 due to the impacts of the Great Recession on tax collections.
