Snowy road conditions shut down early voting in House District 22 on Tuesday and caused a candidates forum set for tonight to be canceled.

The runoff election for the state House District 22 seat left vacant in November by the death of Calvin Hill is set for Tuesday. Early voting for the seat covering parts of Cherokee, Forsyth and Fulton counties is in Cherokee at the elections office at 400 East Main St. in Canton and will end at 5 p.m. Friday. Cherokee County candidates Meagan Biello and Sam Moore are squaring off for the seat after they were the top two vote-getters in a four-candidate race Jan. 7.

Elections Supervisor Janet Munda, above, was forced to close the elections office Tuesday because of the weather, and the office was unable to open Wednesday.

“We have early voting during normal business hours and right now we are unable to operate the office,” she said Wednesday.

Because of the icy road conditions, the Cherokee County Republican Women group canceled its forum planned tonight in Canton for the candidates.

The polls will be open at all precincts in District 22 on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the runoff election.
