Georgia lawmakers back textile bill – Atlanta Business Chronicle

A half-dozen members of Georgia’s congressional delegation are cosponsoring legislation aimed at saving textile jobs.

The Textile Enforcement and Security Act calls for hiring more Customs and Border Protection specialists to stop fraudulent textile and apparel goods from entering the U.S., establishing centralized databases to keep track of high-risk importers and supply chains and requiring the federal government to publish names of companies that intentionally violate textile and apparel trade agreements.

“When trade violators sneak illegal goods into the United States, it’s a direct threat to our textile workers,” said U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, R-Ranger.

Georgia lawmakers joining Graves in cosponsoring the bill are Reps. Sanford Bishop, D-Albany; Lynn Westmoreland, R-Grantville; Hank Johnson, D-Lithonia; Doug Collins, R-Gainesville; and David Scott, D-Atlanta.
