Today is the final day for all candidates running for public office in the Nov. 5 general election to file their campaign finance reports showing donations and expenses through Sept. 30. A late fee kicks in at midnight.
The total being spent by those seeking votes in the general election is getting off to a slow start, according to the few reports provided so far to the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission.
As of Sunday night, only eight of the 21 candidates who qualified for the Rome City Commission Ward 2 race, Rome Board of Education or Cave Spring City Council Posts 3, 4 and 5 had provided their campaign’s monetary status to the commission, according to its website.
While there is an option to e-file reports directly with the state, some could decide to mail in their reports — which means their reports would show up later.
Those who fail to file a report by midnight tonight will be subject to a $125 fee. If they do not file by Oct. 15, an additional $250 is charged.
