Hall gets state loan for new landfill treatment system | GainesvilleTimes.com

Frequent rain showers are only adding to Hall County’s headache of treating water contaminated from hitting the Candler Road landfill.

Hall County was awarded a $1.2 million Georgia Fund loan from the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority last week that will allow the county to replace its broken leachate system, which treats the water that touches the landfill.

The loan will finance construction of a 20,000-gallon-per-day treatment facility. The county will pay 1.2 percent interest on the 10-year loan. The total project cost is $1.2 million with GEFA providing the entire amount.

Hall County still owes about $1.1 million on the broken plant, which could handle about 12,000 gallons a day. It started breaking down about a year and a half ago, said Ken Rearden, director of county Public Works and Utilities.
