The Chatham County Commission today is scheduled to consider increases to the solid waste fee for dry trash, water and sewer rates and various recreation fees.
Officials say the costs of providing those services have risen and must be reflected in bills to customers beginning July 1. County staff has asked commissioners to vote on the matter before they decide on the final budget for the coming year.
The county’s fiscal year runs July 1 through June 30.
The dry trash pick-up fee is currently on path to deplete solid waste reserve funding as early as fiscal year 2016, according to county staff. An increase from $43 to $85 per year for a single-family residence has been recommended.
