Douglas County BOC supports ‘home rule’ by 3-2 vote – Douglas County Sentinel: News

A resolution in support of local governments controlling their own ordinances and regulations was, District 4 Commissioner Ann Jones Guider said in her opinion, “a show of protest” by the Board of Commissioners.

But while the three Republicans on the BOC were protesting state legislators using legislation as a “weapon against local governments,” the commission’s two Democrats felt like the resolution discouraged dialogue between the county government and Douglas County’s eight-member state delegation.

After what at times was a heated debate, the BOC passed the resolution 3-2 along party lines.

“This resolution is unnecessary,” said District 2 Commissioner Kelly Robinson. “The reason I say that – there’s different ways you can approach a problem. If you have a communication problem, there’s a gap. The best way to do it is through dialogue. When I see separation, when I see segregation of roles when we’re supposed to be a team, that concerns me.”
