RN-T.com – Medical expansion sought for jail

Officials with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office are hoping the need for better medical facilities at the Floyd County Jail can be met by funding from a new SPLOST.

Plans are to move the jail’s medical division — which consists of only four beds for the 820-bed facility — into a newly constructed 13,500-square-foot building that would include 60 beds and be built on space previously planned for expansion.

“There has been insufficient space for medical expansion from the start,” Chief Deputy Tom Caldwell said. “We need the space and we need to do this.”
