Gingrey fights to protect military benefits

In light of the Bipartisan Budget Act and this week’s passage of the omnibus spending bill, Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D., today cosponsored legislation to protect military personnel from cuts made to their retirement benefits. The measure, H.R. 3788, includes provisions to fully repeal the budget adjustments and offset the cost by closing IRS loopholes that welcome unbridled tax credit fraud.

“We must honor our commitment to putting our fiscal house in order, but it’s downright wrong to do it on the backs of our men and women in uniform,” said Gingrey. “It’s bad enough that these recent budget agreements fund Obamacare and promise long-term spending cuts in exchange for immediate increases. It’s unreal that – on top of that – Congress would ask our troops and veterans to foot the bill. I won’t stand for it, and I’ll continue fighting to make sure that we not only honor the promises we made to our constituents, but the ones we made to those who have served our country as well.”
