July 8 deadline for tax appraisal appeals – Times-Georgian: News

Carroll County taxpayers have until July 8 to appeal the county’s assessment of real estate property values that were recently mailed, according to the county’s chief appraiser.

“The tax assessment notices were mailed out May 24, and by law, taxpayers have 45 days to appeal,” Sandy Ferguson said. “Personal property notices went out May 31, so the final appeal date on those is July 15.”

More than 50,000 real estate notices were mailed and just over 1,000 personal property notices. Personal property includes such items as boats, airplanes, business equipment, inventory and fixtures.

The notices show what the property is valued at this year and how it compares to last year’s value.

“The notice also gives an estimate of what your tax bill will likely be, based on last year’s tax millage rate, since we don’t yet have this year’s rate,” Ferguson said.

The tax millage rate is set in July by the Board of Commissioners, based on county budget needs.

The tax amount is also broken down on the mailed notice to show how much goes to the school system, county government and state government.
