Celebrating Independence Day
Dear friend,
Today, our nation celebrates its 237th birthday. We both know this holiday is about much more than cookouts and fireworks. It’s a day to be grateful for the forward-thinking patriots who crafted our nation’s founding documents. Our Founding Fathers outlined the rights and freedoms that made America the freest, most prosperous nation in the world. Independence Day is also a time to thank the men and women who have sacrificed so much in defense of those liberties.
This Independence Day is particularly meaningful to me, as I have had the incredible privilege of being your voice in the U.S. House of Representatives for more than six months.
I’ve learned a lot in the first half of 2013. The need to vigilantly protect the noble heritage our Founding Fathers gave us – a heritage of liberty, responsibility, and limited government – has been impressed on me like never before.
But I have also become more convinced that our country is full of patriots who want to pass a stronger, more prosperous America along to their children. The “Spirit of 1776” remains strong in our nation, and I’m so grateful for folks like you who are committed to freedom.
Together, I know we will effect changes in Washington that will protect our God-given liberties and create an America we’ll be proud to hand off to future generations.
Lisa and I are grateful for your continued support, and we wish you a happy Independence Day!
In your service,
Doug
