GBI probe of DA’s office underway – Douglas County Sentinel: Local News

Officials from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have initiated the probe requested by Douglas County District Attorney David McDade into spending, procedures and hiring practices in his office.

GBI spokesperson Sherry Lang confirmed that the request was received and officials have visited the Douglas County Courthouse. She said a team of multiple GBI agents from across the state will be handling the investigation that she said has “no real timeline.”

“An agent from our Atlanta office is heading the investigation, but we will bring in two or three others from outside offices to help in the process,” Lang said Thursday. “There is no real timeline, so to speak. GBI investigations are thorough and they will work as hard and long as needed to conduct and complete the process.”

The process was initiated by McDade when he wrote GBI Director Vernon Keenan on May 22 after allegations of misuse of funds, improper use of office vehicles and nepotism arose after a FOX 5 investigative report by Dale Russell.
