In an announcement exclusively on Georgia’s Morning News with Zoller and Bryant and to Martha Zoller’s zpolitics.com, Rep. Donna Sheldon announced today she will resign from the Georgia House of Representatives to run full time for the 10th District Congressional seat vacated by Rep. Paul Broun as he runs for United States Senate.

In a press release this morning, Donna Sheldon’s campaign made this statement:
DACULA, GA – Georgia State Representative Donna Sheldon (R-Dacula) today announced her resignation from the State House of Representatives in order to devote all of her energies to her campaign for U.S. Congress.
“I’m proud to have been a part of balancing Georgia’s budget in tough times, maintaining our triple A bond rating and creating an even better climate for small business here,” Donna said. “Now I am determined to take these experiences to Washington, D.C. to fight for the same things in Congress.”
The timing of Sheldon’s move will save taxpayer dollars by eliminating the need for a special election that would have been necessary had she waited to resign because there is already an election scheduled for November in her district.
“I informed the Governor and Speaker of my intentions yesterday,” Sheldon said. I am very proud to have represented my community for eleven years in the House and grateful beyond words to my friends and neighbors who have been so supportive of me.”
