Lucas has an approximate birthday of 6/14/2019. He was brought to the shelter by a couple that had noticed him hanging around the dumpster in their apartment complex, he actually came up to them. Lucas enjoys playtime with his shelter siblings.
Chino has an approximate birthdate of 6/13/2014. Chino was surrendered to the shelter by his owner that was heading off to college and wanted to find him a home were he could be spoiled and get lots of attention. Chino is a very sweet, loving canine that is willing to please. He does well with his shelter siblings and loves playtime. He should do well with middle aged children, but not recommended for smaller children.
Ebony was found starving in a parking lot with her brother Onyx (below). We later found out Ebony was one of five pups that were dumped from a van on a deserted road when they were only 4 months old. 3 siblings were captured by animal control but Ebony and her brother Onyx somehow escaped and had to fend for themselves for over a week. Both were very emaciated and dehydrated. Ebony had to stay overnight at the vet office with a high fever due to infection from a wound she had on her neck. She is such a sweet and fun but energetic girl who loves attention. We are not sure how Ebony would get along with cats or other dogs or small children. She seems to have a prey drive with small dogs so she may be best as an only pet. She is currently living with her brother Onyx. With some TLC and obedience training we feel they both will be wonderful pets with a family willing to put the time and effort into them.
Charlotte Rose, aka Charlie, is a big fun loving girl who came to Street Paws from Henry County Animal Control. She was held in animal control for 7 months prior to her foster family selecting her to start a new life. The family was surprised how she maintained her happy and playful personality during the uncertain and stressful conditions at the shelter. She was underweight with a lot of ticks, but has since filled out and has a beautiful soft coat.
Charlotte is housebroken and crate trained, although she is currently free to roam the house when her foster family is gone. She walks well on a leash, and has learned a lot of commands, such as sit, down, stay, shake, as well as take it and leave it for treats and toys. She is very treat and praise driven and can learn a lot more! She loves to play fetch and go for walks, but really Charlotte just wants to be around her people. She will follow you around the house or yard and is always ready for a good ear scratch or belly rub.
Charlotte is definitely a people-dog, but with proper introduction, gets along good with other dogs as well. She still has a puppy mentality when it comes to dog-socialization, so any new dog will have to be understanding and patient with her energy and eager barks to meet. She is great with kids, her foster home has a 3 year old, and she is extremely patient with him and is excited to interact with him as much as with the adults. She in untested with cats, but her size and playfulness may be intimidating to any feline housemates.
Jasper is new to the rescue with his siblings Betsy and Tess. Jasper is 5 mo and great with kids and friendly dogs. We don’t know about cats.
Pixie has been with us since she was just a pup and is repeatedly overlooked by adopters as she is timid around new people. It takes her a little bit to adjust and be comfortable with strangers but once she does, she is as happy as can be. Being shy is Pixie’s only fault; she is playful, fun, spunky, loving, overall a nice medium-sized terrier mix who plays well with other dogs. Pixie would benefit from a home with a confident dog and patient humans to help her overcome some of her shyness. In fact, a family willing to spend time with her at the kennel would be ideal.
Our cool Surfer dude enjoys toys, water, and his friends. Play is the thing with Surf, and he thinks he would enjoy games like fetch. He learns very quickly, and will work for treats. This happy go lucky guy would love to meet you.
Paris is a young adult (2-ish) Beagle/Beagle mix who is intelligent, fun-loving, kind, and determined…especially when it comes to following his nose and zooming around the yard – he IS a beagle after all! For this reason Paris will need a home with a fenced yard. Paris gets along well with people and other dogs.
Welcome Jessie! This lowrider is 4 years old and about 18 pounds. Jessie lives with dogs of all shapes and sizes and gets along well with everyone. She especially enjoys convincing the big dogs to let her in on their fun. She’s a sweet girl and loves to snuggle too. Jessie is just learning about crate training and house training but she’ll have it down soon!
Update from Hercules’s foster 7/7: If anyone is looking to adopt a dog, this guy is so great! Gets along with other dogs (He is great with Cricket, a small dog with some anxieties), is so sweet and wants to be near you (while still respecting your space), and seems trained (no accidents in the house, will go in his crate, sits, and listens when I tell him not to do something).
Sadie is just an adorable girl that loves everyone. She is a lab mix (not sure what else) and currently about 12 weeks old. Poor Sadie was turned into the vets office due to her being very sick. She tested to have the horrible parvo virus and her previous owners did not want to pay to treat her to save her life. The wonderful clinic knew she was special and took her in to be treated. She is a happy girl and is outgoing and loves to play. She wants to be everywhere you are. She will probably be a medium sized (50lbs) when grown.
Rome Public Animal Welfare Services will have limited public hours and health screening for visitors due to COVID-19, according to the Rome News Tribune.
Public Animal Welfare Services at 99 North Ave. is opening its doors to the public Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
It’s a compromise schedule — to increase the chances of a pet adoption but to lower the risk of coronavirus exposure. Director Jeff Mitchell said they have been sanitizing each cage in the facility as often as possible to prevent any spread of COVID-19 among the animals and employees.
While the public can visit the facility to look at the adoptable pets, everyone will have their temperature taken before entering and be asked a series of questions relating to their potential COVID-19 exposure.
I’m Cricket! I used to be called Corn Cob, but I think Cricket is a much better name for me! I like to run and would be a GREAT hiking partner because I am spectacular on a leash!
I like to play with other puppy friends, and I am very playful, especially when toys are involved. I also CRAVE attention, so I’m always down for a good belly rub!
I am kennel-trained, but I like to take my blankets everywhere with me, so sometimes I need help putting them back so I can be all snuggly for my sleepy times.
Because I have so much energy and I just want to love you, sometimes I can get a little rowdy, but I am starting basic training classes, so I’m going to learn how to control my jumps. I am treat motivated, so learning will be a breeze.
I’m Buster, and I am just a big ol’ bundle of pure joy! I’m about 5-6 years old, but I still have a TON of energy and I LOVE to play ball! I have lots of other doggy friends that I like to play with. All people are my favorite people, and I also love to play with kiddos.
I am a big boy at 85 pounds, but I’m really just a big baby who wants to play ALL DAY! I am also VERY loyal, so add that to the pro column along with how very handsome I am!
I’m Jack, and I am the goodest, goofiest boy! I have boundless energy and I’m ALWAYS up for playtime! When I’m not playing, though, I am crate trained and like to take a little snooze in there!
I LOVE chasing things, which can be scary for cats and smaller dogs. I don’t know my own strength yet, so my big paws can get a little risky. Speaking of my strength, I am VERY strong! If I see a bird or a butterfly on my walks, sometimes I end up taking my person for a walk instead of the other way around.
My other favorite thing is fetch! I freaking love that game! I can play it for hours!! When I finally get tuckered out I am super good at the cuddles. If we’re just hanging out, I will lean into you and nuzzle you for pets. Getting ear scritches is very calming for me.
I’m a fun-loving, happy-all-the-time, glass-is-half-full kind of dog looking for someone who loves to laugh and play around. Must have a great sense of humor and some time to spend with me. I’m a dog on a mission to please you. Recommend children 8 years and plus.
Jilly has been found heartworm-positive and will need meds and a low-key lifestyle for a period to help her heal.
Arlo, is a nine (9) month old lab mix and was part of one of our litters last year. His owner sold their house and are having another baby and they need to rehome Arlo. He loves other dogs and enjoys doggy daycare. He also plays well with their eight year old son.
Arlo looks like he could be a long-lost cousin to GaPundit Hound-in-Chief, Dolly.
Ruffus is very chilled out and loves being with people. Hes also good in play groups with other dogs, but isnt as playful as other dogs. He is cat friendly and loves to cuddle, great on a leash and seems to be house trained.
Bo is good in the house, and good with people and dogs. He loves to go for runs and hikes. His family is giving him up because he is not comfortable with their young children.
