PAWS Humane Society in Columbus announced they will euthanize animals to create more space for intake, according to WTVM.
Paws Humane Society said it will euthanize dogs Tuesday because it has run out of space to house them.
The shelter said in a statement that more dogs are coming through its doors than it has safe places to put them. It said its kennels, foster homes and rescue partners are full.
“We have continued to say yes to dogs who needed somewhere to go for as long as we possibly could,” the shelter said. “But we have reached our limit.”
The shelter said there are dogs currently in the building that it will have to euthanize because there is nowhere else for them to go.
Paws Humane Society asked the community to take the following steps:
• Adopt a dog at pawshumane.org/adopt
• Foster a dog through the shelter’s foster application.
• Help a friend or neighbor keep a dog instead of surrendering it
• Rescue organizations with available space are asked to contact the shelterThe shelter said it does not want the situation to become normal and does not want to “write another post like this.”
Shovel is a three-month old female mixed breed puppy who is available for adoption from PAWS Humane Society in Columbus, GA. I’m getting a Hound vibe here.
Boo Boo is an eighteen-month old, 73-pound female mixed breed dog who is available for adoption from PAWS Humane Society in Columbus, GA.
Hi, I’m BooBoo, a stunning 1-year-old black mixed breed with a gentle soul and those soulful eyes that’ll steal your heart instantly! I’m already spayed and weigh around 72 pounds, I’m a confident girl with a big presence — but don’t let my size fool you, because I’m an absolute sweetheart. I’m affectionate and friendly with everyone I meet, I know how to sit, and I’m food motivated, which makes training a breeze. I can’t wait to find my forever family and show you just how much love a gentle giant like me has to give!
Wally is a fifteen-month old, 30-pound male mixed breed dog who is available for adoption from PAWS Humane Society in Columbus, GA. Again, a very strong Hound vibe.
Filburt is a sixteen-month old, 40-pound male mixed breed who is available for adoption from PAWS Humane Society in Columbus, GA.
Filburt is a young, social pup who loves a good wrestling session with canine friends almost as much as he loves being near his favorite people. He’s one of our go-to “tester dogs” for new intakes because he does such a great job matching other dogs’ energy, though he can be a little pushy with his invitations to play. He is eager to please, has done well at offsite events, and is currently working on basic commands like “sit” and “lay down.” Filburt is a happy, affectionate, social boy who we think will make a wonderful family pet!
This dog reminds me of my grandmother, who called hazelnuts “filberts.”
