Adoptable (Official) Georgia Dogs for September 1, 2026

Gargoyle is a 2-year old male mixed breed dog who is available for adoption from Athens-Clarke County Animal Services in Athens, GA.

Gargoyle is a handsome fellow, and I assume, the papa of the five-month-old pups he was surrendered with. He’s one of the 11 dogs that came in together. When I first met Gargoyle, he was frightened and not ready to leave his kennel. He’s more confident now and was glad to have time outside. I put Sassy, who came in with Gargoyle, in the interaction pen next to us, so he’d have a canine friend. They were both happy about that and enjoyed trotting along the fence together. When Sassy went to the shade to relax, Gargoyle found some shade, too. I petted him and told him he was a good boy, and he was feeling more at ease. When it was time for Gargoyle to return to his kennel, I made sure we stopped at his pups’ kennels. They were all at the gate barking for his attention as though saying, “Papa, Papa!” He touched their noses through the fence, and it tugged at my heart. I would have loved seeing them altogether in an interaction pen playing and having fun.

Roxanne (Roxy) is a 10-year old female mixed breed dog who is available for adoption from Athens-Clarke County Animal Services in Athens, GA.

Update from Roxy’s temporary foster: Surely SOMEONE out there has a heart for senior pibbles and won’t mind the fact that Roxy is a little rough around the edges. She’s 10 years old, has cauliflower ear, a saggy belly likely from having many litters, thickened skin on her legs and paws likely from living much of her life on a hard surface or in a kennel, and a scattering of small lumps and bumps (as most seniors have). But behaviorally? She’s a DREAM.

I first met her at the Farmers Market and immediately fell in love. She’s VERY my type. A thick squatty couch potato pittie who loves everyone and everything. Needless to say, I was thrilled to find out that I could babysit her while her foster is out of town.

Things I know about Roxy:
• Great with kids and other dogs
• House trained
• Loves walks and car rides
• ZERO jumping, barking, or chewing
• Crate trained, but can be left out unattended
• Knows sit and takes treats gently
• She’s SO EASY. So perfect. 1000/10.

Please help share so that this girl can live out the rest of her days in a loving home. All she wants is to lay on a dog bed (or in your lap if you’ll let her).

Joker is a 3-year old male mixed breed (Basset Hound) dog who is available for adoption from Athens-Clarke County Animal Services in Athens, GA.

I remember Joker, and I also remember his mournful howl letting everyone know he wants to go home. He was glad when I took him outside, and I imagine he’s house trained because he took care of his business right away. Our walk to the interaction pen became a “sniffari” as Joker took in every scent along our slow-paced walk. Once there, Joker had had his fill and was ready to spend time with me. He’d sit for treats and liked pets and scratches. He’s a super sweet boy and adorable, too, with his typical basset hound features-large droopy ears and front paws that turn outward. Also typical, Joker is a good-natured boy. I hope Joker gets his wish and he’s home soon. He’s such a good buddy, and I know he must be missed!

Prissy is a 5-year old female mixed breed dog who is available for adoption from Athens-Clarke County Animal Services in Athens, GA.

Short-term foster update: Prissy is crate trained and appears to be house trained. She is a complete doll with all humans, including my kids, the youngest of whom is seven. She would probably do better in a house with fewer dogs (we have four). I think she would absolutely love to be a couch potato only dog, though she might also do okay with one or two other friendly dogs and an experienced handler. She would definitely need a slow introduction to other dogs. She’s easy on a leash, though she does pull some when we see other animals. But it’s not too bad when she does pull. She’s always excited to see me in the morning. Who doesn’t want to be greeted so enthusiastically??

Prissy (aka Princess) has been at the shelter before and is as sweet as I remember. She’s super friendly, and when I sat down on a bench, she was on my lap. She sits for treats, but her priority today was being loved on. Prissy is house trained, and her former owner said she loves children. I bet they love her, too. She’s a happy, affectionate girl!
