Governor Nathan Deal signs autism bill

Governor Nathan Deal signed Georgia’s Autism Bill Wednesday.

The bill, also known as Ava’s Law, requires insurers to offer $30,000 in coverage to treat children age 6 and under with Autism.

Ava’s Law is named after Ava Bullard, a young girl from Lyons, Georgia, whose early autism treatment helped her in school and restored her speech. Her mom Anna and the group “Autism Speaks”, lobbied for six years for Georgia to require health insurance companies to cover autism treatment costs.
