Voters from the northern arc of DeKalb County were casting ballots Tuesday to choose a county commissioner who can take on the region’s woes.

The winner of the runoff election would replace Elaine Boyer, who pleaded guilty to defrauding taxpayers of $93,000 and resigned.

Both of the candidates, Republican Nancy Jester and independent Holmes Pyles, say they would bring honesty and transparency to the DeKalb Commission.

Jester, a former DeKalb school board member, said she would be a watchdog over taxpayer money and give the public online access to government financial records.
