ATLANTA — The state of Georgia is asking a federal judge to force the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to evaluate the state’s requests for additional water supply storage at Lake Allatoona.
The state filed a lawsuit Friday in federal court in Atlanta seeking to compel the Corps to update its water control plans and manuals for Lake Allatoona and other reservoirs in the Alabama-Coosa-Tallapoosa river basin.
Attorney General Samuel Olens said filing the lawsuit is regrettable but necessary in order to get the Corps to do its job.
“We need to know how Allatoona Lake will be operated for water supply so we can plan for the future,” said Olens in a statement. “That’s all we’re asking the Corps to do — put politics aside, make a decision, and let the chips fall where they may.”
