Augusta voters who did not go to the polls May 20 will get another chance to do their civic duty next month.
While the contest for Augusta mayor saw Sen. Hardie Davis win outright in a four-way race, the five-way District 6 commission election had no candidate win more than 50 percent of the vote, sending newspaper publisher Ben Hasan and retired Army and Fort Gordon staffer Bob Finnegan into the July 22 runoff.
Any voter residing in the south Augusta district who met the April 21 registration deadline can participate in the nonpartisan District 6 runoff, whether or not they cast a ballot May 20, Richmond County Board of Elections Executive Director Lynn Bailey said.
Registered voters across most of Augusta-Richmond County who selected a Democratic or nonpartisan ballot or did not vote last month also will choose between Mayor Pro Tem Corey Johnson and former Richmond County solicitor general Harold Jones in the primary runoff for state House District 22.
With no Republicans qualifying for the seat, the runoff winner will likely represent most of Augusta next year under the Gold Dome.
