Incumbent David Blevins and Dalton Municipal Court Judge Jim Wilbanks are headed to a runoff to decide who will be the next Superior Court judge of the Conasauga Judicial Circuit, which includes Whitfield and Murray counties.

Blevins received 3,642 votes (35.38 percent), Wilbanks received 4,780 votes (46.44 percent) and Scott Helton received 1,871 votes (18.18 percent). Those numbers are unofficial until certified by the Secretary of State’s office and do not include any provisional ballots.

Blevins said heading to a runoff, scheduled for July 22, is what he had anticipated in a three-person race.

“You always hope it will turn out better than that,” he said. “The only thing that surprised me really was the vote in Murray County. It was a little more in Jim’s favor than I thought it would be.”
