Gov. Deal signs year’s first bill – Atlanta Business Chronicle

Gov. Nathan Deal signed the 2014 General Assembly session’s first bill Tuesday, legislation moving this year’s primaries from July to May.

The bill was made necessary by a federal court order requiring Georgia to wait at least 45 days between the primaries and any subsequent runoffs to give overseas military personnel time to cast absentee ballots.

Under the legislation, the Republican and Democratic primaries will take place on May 20. Any runoffs that result would be held on July 22.
