Effingham County Sheriff’s Office warns of Georgia Power scam | savannahnow.com

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office is warning Georgia Power customers that scammers are once again calling and visiting residences, posing as company employees.

The imposters say the customer has a past due balance, and in order to prevent shutoff, they must purchase a pre-paid card by providing credit and debit account information.

A real company employee would never ask a customer to do this. If a customer’s account ever became past due, the person would receive a prerecorded message that gives a phone number they can call to find out about their account, Effingham County Sheriff’s spokesman David Ehsanipoor said.
