SCCPSS board will vote on new Port Wentworth school attendance zone Wednesday | savannahnow.com

Wednesday the Savannah-Chatham Public School Board will vote on a proposal for a new Port Wentworth area attendance zone designed to keep students in that growing community together and to relieve crowding at Godley Station K8 in Pooler.

The meeting takes place 3 p.m. Wednesday in the Eli Whitney Complex at 2 Laura Avenue in Savannah.

If approved, the public school system would create a single attendance zone that encompasses the entire municipality of Port Wentworth – from the Lakeshore, Newport, Rice Creek and Rice Hope subdivisions in upper Port Wentworth to the older portions of town in lower Port Wentworth. Early elementary age students would attend school at the current Port Wentworth Elementary campus and students in the upper elementary and middle grades will attend the new education sales tax funded Port Wentworth School to open during the 2015-2016 school year. Both sites will ultimately serve about 1,687 Port Wentworth area students.
